Business Technology with Mrs. Nicole Butler

I got the opportunity to observe Mrs. Butler at Grove City Middle School. She is the Business Technologies teacher at the middle school, and works with grades 6-8 to increase their knowledge of various technologies and good digital citizenship. Students use a tool called Go Guardian, a tool Mrs. Butler uses to both monitor student behavior and see students’ screen so that she is able to sit at her desk and see what the student is sees. Mrs. Butler also has two projectors in her room that she projects the daily instructions so that students are able to see the instructions regardless of where they are sitting. Mrs. Butler has a website that is full of professional development tools and she is certified in google. The Middle School has a 1:1 device policy, meaning each student in the middle school is provided with a laptop that they are able to use for the duration of the school year. Because of this, teachers are able to post assignments for students, and students are able to more easily ask questions even when they are outside of the classroom. The technologies available for these students really help students develop the ISTE Standards of being an Empowered Learner and Digital Citizen. These students are learning how to use the resources available to them to take their education into their own hands, while also learning what it takes to participate in the online community safely, intelligently, and respectfully.
