Domain 1: Planning and Preparation

Domain One is titled, “Planning and Preparation”. This domain focuses on how to be a good teacher by being ready for two different sections: content and students. As teachers, we must be prepared to teach all content in our area and all students in our classroom. Domain One begins by discussing how we can be better teachers by showing our students and fellow teachers that we know what we are talking about and could successfully face problems that we have not seen before. Later in the domain, it talks about the importance of designing instruction and assessments that fit the content that one is looking to test while also being successful for students. The second part of Domain One focuses on the students. Knowing the students in the classroom from an academic and personal perspective gives teachers the ability to create an excellent classroom environment. Domain One also focuses on teachers allowing students to take control of their learning, which is vital to being a good teacher. Overall, Domain One forces teachers to look at how they are presenting their content and how they are interacting with their students.
